Creativity as therapy

Creativity as therapy

"The truly creative mind in any field is no more than a cruelly delicate organism with the overpowering neccessity to create, create, create - so that without the creating music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out a creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating.": Pearl Buck

Truly, we as a human race and as individuals are absorbed by the creative urge; it doesn't matter if we create a painting, an article, a song, a book, a meal, an organization, an institution, a tradition, a country, a relationship, a garden...anything. Truth be told, we are all the time engaged in creating - no bars to constructive or distructive intent! In creating differences, unrest, illness, political strife, and the rest, we fan our destructive intent to create, and we ths go on to create monsters.

These monsters then appear to us as illness within us, or illness such as the stuff that TV news is made of: War, struggles, drugs, homicide...

We choose to create because create we must. It is inbuilt in us by nature, to create, to improve. Yet, in choosing to create orgies, we defeat the purpose that creation had in investing us with the urge and power to create.
