How to use your japa mantra, Swami Rama

Meditation

You often close your eyes and sit down and you don’t know what to do next; then you start remembering your mantra. You can remember your mantra all the time, but that’s not very systematic. It will take a long time for you.

You’re doing japa, but you’re doing it halfheartedly. If you do the same thing with full concentration, it will definitely give you results.

When you remember your mantra, you should remember it with all your feeling. You should know about your mantra—understand what your mantra is. More...

Walking on the path of Truth, Swami Rama

IGP5324The path of Truth is narrower than the needle’s eye and as sharp as a razor’s edge.

When you start expanding your consciousness, you will come to know that on the path of spirituality there is always guidance from the unknown. We have come from the unknown and we will return to the unknown.

We remain in the known for only a short time, but the unknown is always with us. Therefore, we should rely on the unknown. If we are treading the path of light, and if by chance, by mistake, by ignorance, or even by bad habit, we commit mistakes, we will return to the path again, because of the guidance from the unknown.

When you study you will find many paths and many ways and methods. All roads lead to only one goal. If you practice and learn to follow one path for a few days, and after some time follow another path, and then after a month follow another one, that is not going to help you.

When you are searching and seeking, you should be doing it honestly with your full strength—not halfheartedly.

If your dearest one stands in the way of Self-realization, tread over him, forsake him, go beyond. If your beloved stands in the way of Self-realization, cast her aside. Your trusted friend is Truth and Truth alone.

Human union gives you a joy that is only a glimpse

Happiness is the ultimate goal in life. All your actions in this world, weather eating food, getting married, or having children, homes or friends, are an attempt to find happiness. But do they give you happiness?

They offer the best of joys--- for a moment--- but they do not give you everlasting joy. You find their joy, and then return again to the same world of conflict, sadness sorrow, and worry. Human union gives you a joy that is only a glimpse, a foretaste of something higher, which is everlasting.

Organize your worldly and spiritual lives, by Swami Rama

Double happiness“We must not create a wall between our worldly and spiritual lives. People disorganized in their worldly life search for spiritual wisdom in seclusion; whereas, if organized properly, they can have all the means and resources that are of utmost importance for spiritual enlightenment. The purpose of human life is to make the best use of the resources that nature or God has given us. More...

One day you will find out that you are the architect of your life, by Swami Rama

The Architect

BeehiveWhen a human being learns to seek religion not in gods, but in his own potentials, then he will know that he is great and that within his greatness lies his happiness. When he rapidly unfolds the chapters of life’s manuscript, of which he himself is the author, he begins to realize who he is.

You are the architect of your life. You build your own philosophy and construct your own attitudes. Without right attitudes, the entire architecture remains shaky. Once you realize this fact, you will look within. More...

Don’t be afraid. Sooner or later you have to resolve those fears

Swami Rama Photos

How does one cultivate love for those duties which create conflict in the mind?

First of all, you should sit down. There are only few conflicts; not many. You have not resolved them because you are afraid. And do you know what fear does? Fear invites danger. You are afraid of that, and that’s why you have kept the fear.

Don’t be afraid. Sooner or later you’ll have to resolve those fears. Be forward and do it. The conflict will not be there. You are afraid of telling something to your wife, and there is a conflict, ‘I did not say this to my wife. If she knows, she is going to create havoc at home.’ So there is a conflict.

Either resolve it without letting it out. Spitting something bad out is also not good. It is not necessary.More...
