A Braj sawaiya by poet Raskhan.

Sri Banke Bihari ji ke sawaiya, 30 of 144, Straight from a Gopi’s heart

In this Braj sawaiya verse, the poet pens a Gopi’s state of mind on seeing Krishna:

The Gopi shares, “I am restless ever since I’ve seen Krishna. All my thoughts and conflicts are gone. All the good and bad things that people have ever said to me have disappeared from my mind. Now I shed tears of longing for Krishna. Every day and night this longing is with me. My friends say, ‘Have some shame.’ And I answer, ‘Love for Krishna has overwhelmed me so completely that there is no place for shame.’”

Sri Banke Bihari ji ke sawaiya, 29 of 144, Maharaas in Vrindavan

God is always in union (Maharaas) with creation, though we don’t always realize it. This sawaiya verse by a Braj poet, depicts the episode when God came as Sri Radha and Krishna - to love and be loved.

Gopis of Vrindavan had prayed to Ma Katyayani on the banks of River Yamuna (Yamuna ji is also Krishna’s wife and she is a symbol of love, a giver of devotion to Krishna.) The prayer was to have Krishna as their master/caretaker/husband. God is already everyone’s caretaker and master. More...

In this sawaiya verse, Malook says to Krishna:

Ever since I’ve heard of your merciful nature, I have surrendered myself to you. Now that I am yours, I am not going to anyone else for help. My surrender to you is total. I depend on you. There is none other as famous as you. Murari, if you don’t answer my prayer, I am not at a loss, it is your fame that you are jeopardising :-)

Poet Raskhan says in this sawaiya:

In my next birth, if I am born as a human being, I wish to be born in Gokul as a cowherd boy (so that I get Krishna’s company). If I am born as an animal, I wish I could be a cow in the herd of Nand baba (Krishna’s father) and graze with them. If I am turned into a stone, I wish to be a part of Govardhan hill which was used as shield against raingod Indra’s wrath. If I am a bird I wish to nest in a Kadamb tree on the banks of River Yamuna.

Raskhan’s wish is to be in the company of Krishna or anything that reminds of Him.

Krishna bhajan, Mukut varo kunjan me sataki gayo re

Meaning of Krishna bhajan

Krishna, who wears a crown has given me the slip in the bowers of Vrindavan. His name is Banwari, and this is how he has been playing I spy with me for many lifetimes. He is such a fighter-cock. I have lost my heart to him.

He takes cows for grazing and waits for them under the Kadamb tree. I have lost my heart to him. Krishna, who wears a crown has given me the slip in the bowers of Vrindavan.

He came to my street, and smiled. I have lost my heart to him. Krishna, who wears a crown has given me the slip in the bowers of Vrindavan.

He plays his flute and attracts me to Vrindavan. I have lost my heart to him. Krishna, who wears a crown has given me the slip in the bowers of Vrindavan.
